Music

Our band was all about using music to meet people and have fun with them. To have adventures together. We are all lucky enough to have many, many glorious and occasionally quite hazy memories of those adventures with Kenny. We remember looking forward excitedly to find out what Ken’s outfit of the day was going to be before each gig: Skimpy boob tube and tiny hotpants for the biker’s gig? of course. Tuxedo, shaved head and fake comb-over? Suits you Ken. Caretaker overcoat and flat cap, complete with clipboard, and stepladder? Obviously.

Onstage Ken would be totally lost in the music and the moment. Our crazy Shaman in joyful abandon, uplifting everyone in the room, inviting all to join him.  He often made us laugh so much we couldn’t play, while carrying on perfectly himself, absolutely straight-faced, or wearing that cheeky little smile.

He thought of his songs as sketches. Didn’t waste too much time on exacting the perfect sound. It was more important to get it out. Think of something, resolve to create it, create something, finish it. Move onto the next one.

However the creative mind behind the song shines through every time. A simple observation, new angle on life or a fresh version of something that was already there but then transformed into something completely different.
